Malcolm Deas is recently back from Colombia, where he has followed developments for the last fifty-three years – his first arrival there coinciding with the emergence of the FARC. He is an Emeritus Fellow of St Antony’s College, Oxford, where he was one of the founders of the Latin American Centre.

With a broad knowledge of Latin America he has focussed particularly on Colombia which he continues to visit regularly. He was an adviser to President Gaviria, and is a recipient of the Cruz de Boyaca.
