Colombia’s iconic Tall Ship ‘ARC Gloria’ returns to London

As part of its 2015 goodwill tour of the world, the Colombian Navy’s three-masted training ship will visit London’s Thames Quay, West India Dock from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 September 2015.

The ‘ARC Gloria’, one of the biggest tall ships in the world still in service, left its home port of Cartagena, Colombia, on 26 June and has since visited ports in Portugal, Germany, Holland. During her four-day stay in London the ‘ARC Gloria’ will be open to the public for free tours onboard. 

The ship has a crew of 150, including 67 final-year cadets from the Colombian Naval Academy and one dog “Black Pearl” the sailing black Labrador and the flagship’s mascot.

On Thursday 3 September 2015, the ‘ARC Gloria’ will arrive to Thames Quay, West India Dock, London, E14 9SG at 0630hrs where she will be welcomed by the Ambassador of Colombia to the UK, HE Mr Néstor Osorio and the Colombian community living in London.

The ship will be open for public FREE tours during the following times:

  • Thursday 3 September: 0800 to 1100  – 1400 to 1600
  • Friday  4 September 0900 to 1200 – 1300 to 2000
  • Saturday  5 September – Family Day, all welcome, Children activities  0900 to 1200 – 1300 to 2000
  • Sunday 6 September – 0900 –1300 at West India Dock

Colombia Day by the River Thames – Sunday 6 September (Noon to 1900)

As part of the Totally Thames Festival join us in London to celebrate a Colombia day by the river. There will be music, dancing and delicious Colombian food.

At 7pm the bascules of Tower Bridge will raise to allow the Colombian Navy’s three-masted training ship ‘ARC Gloria’ pass into the Upper Pool where 67 of its crew will balance on its masts singing the Colombian National Anthem.

The Consul General of Colombia to the United Kingdom Mr Rafael Merchán, invites all the Colombian residents in South England and London, to come on board the ‘ARC Gloria’ and present him with suggestions and proposals on the Colombian Consulate’s work.

 

Sunday 6 September – COLOMBIA DAY

The ‘ARC Gloria’ opens its doors to the general public, for all visitors to learn about Colombia and enjoy this iconic tall ship.

Free event and open to the general public.

 

19:00 – Departure from London

The Colombian Flagship ‘ARC Gloria’ departs London passing under the Tower Bridge and making a U-turn in front of Potters Field Park, displaying the Colombian Flag before it continues its journey.

 

12:00 – 19:00 – Colombia Day at the Totally Thames Festival

As part of the London Thames Festival, the Embassy of Colombia to the United Kingdom invites all the Colombian community to Potter’s Field Park in the Southbank to celebrate the Colombia Day. This day will include a Colombian food festival, activities for families and music concluding with the departure performance by Colombian Flagship ‘ARC Gloria’ passing under the Tower Bridge.
